Kitchen fronts - which one do you choose?

The kitchen fronts play one of the main roles in your dream kitchen. However, it's not just about the look, but also about maintenance, durability and price. We'll show you which materials are right for you.
Kitchen fronts

Wood

Wood has its own charm and stands for cosiness, durability and sustainability. If you decide in favour of a wooden kitchen, you need to differentiate between solid wood fronts and real wood fronts.

Solid wood fronts: These fronts represent the most natural front material and are made entirely of wood. Due to their special feel and look, these fronts are often used in country house and designer kitchens.

Real wood fronts: Real wood fronts can be glazed, stained, limewashed, brushed and can be easily adapted to current trends with colour lacquers. The surfaces are then sealed with an invisible protective layer of lacquer.

Plastic

Plastic or laminate is particularly easy to clean, cost-effective and robust. A further distinction is made between plastics:

Foil fronts: The big advantage here is the great scope for colours and patterns. This offers the possibility of imitating real materials such as wood, lacquer or even stone.

Laminate fronts are characterised by a laminate layer made of phenolic wood, decorative paper and a transparent top layer. The advantage of these fronts is that they are extremely hard-wearing and easy to clean. In addition, seamless moulding of edges is possible.

As the name suggests, melamine resin fronts are plastic fronts with a melamine resin coating. For these fronts, decor papers soaked in melamine resin are pressed onto the carrier board under high pressure.
Materials

Lacquer

Lacquered fronts are particularly popular because they are easy to clean and modern. For a lacquered front, the MDF base material is treated with a two-component lacquer. Depending on whether the visible front is to be matt or glossy, various sanding and polishing processes are carried out.

Acrylic

For an acrylic front, a film is applied to a carrier plate using pressure and heat. Glossy surfaces such as an acrylic front can visually enlarge a kitchen. However, they are also more vulnerable due to the material. Special care must be taken when cleaning: Sharp or oily agents should be avoided here, otherwise cracks will creep into the acrylic front.

Glass

Anyone considering having a glass front installed will benefit above all from a robust material that is heat-resistant, moisture-repellent and very hygienic. However, it must be mentioned that fingerprints and dirt can quickly creep in, but these are easy to clean.
