Buying a wardrobe – plenty of storage space for your bedroom
A wardrobe is often the largest and most striking piece of furniture in a bedroom. It keeps things tidy, protects your clothes from dust and sunlight, and plays a key role in creating a cosy atmosphere in the room. At Möbel Ehrmann, we are a family-run business with over 30 years’ experience in the furniture trade, and we’re here to help you choose a wardrobe that suits your home, your clothing needs and your personal style.
Our range includes wardrobes in a wide variety of styles – from classic hinged-door wardrobes and modern sliding-door models to spacious corner wardrobes and walk-in wardrobes. Come and get advice at our furniture stores in the Palatinate, Baden and Trier, and find a wardrobe that suits both your space and your daily routines.
Which wardrobe suits which bedroom?
Not every wardrobe suits every bedroom. First and foremost, the floor plan determines how much space you actually have available. In small rooms, space-saving models with sliding doors are ideal, as they do not require any additional space to open. In more spacious bedrooms, a classic hinged-door wardrobe can really show off its charm, as the doors open fully, giving you a complete overview of the contents.
Ceiling height also plays a role. Floor-to-ceiling wardrobes make full use of the available space and create a particularly tidy look, whilst lower models make the room appear more airy. It’s important to take skirting boards, light switches, radiators and doorways into account when measuring – nothing is more frustrating than when your new wardrobe doesn’t fit against the intended wall in the end.
Another aspect to consider is how the wardrobe will fit into your existing décor. A wardrobe should blend in with the bedroom in terms of colour and style, so that the room feels calm and harmonious. Whether understated in white, warm in wood or striking in anthracite – there is a wide selection to choose from, and your choice should be based on your existing décor. In our showroom, you can compare different wardrobes side by side and get a feel for the various fronts, handles and finishes before making your decision.
Variants and designs – finding the right wardrobe
Hinged-door wardrobe
The classic hinged-door wardrobe has stood the test of time for many decades. Its doors open fully, so you always have a clear view of the entire contents. This design is ideal if you have enough space in front of the wardrobe to open the doors comfortably. Hinged-door models are available in a wide range of designs – from simple and modern to traditional country-house styles with decorative panels and embellishments.
Sliding-door wardrobe
A wardrobe with sliding doors is particularly practical when space in front of the unit is limited. The doors glide silently to the side and require no additional space to open. Sliding-door models often create a spacious and modern look – especially when the doors are designed as large mirrored panels. This makes the bedroom appear brighter and visually larger. Sliding-door wardrobes are also occasionally used as room dividers.
Walk-in wardrobe and corner wardrobe
If you need plenty of storage space or want to make the most of an empty wall area, you might want to consider a walk-in wardrobe or a corner wardrobe. Walk-in wardrobes offer maximum visibility and can be customised to suit your individual needs – with open shelves, clothes rails, drawers and compartments. Corner wardrobes, on the other hand, transform impractical corners into valuable storage space and are a good choice if you have a winding floor plan.
Interior design, tidiness and organisation
A good wardrobe impresses not only with its exterior, but above all with its well-thought-out interior layout. Clothes rails, shelves, drawers, trouser racks, pull-out laundry baskets and compartments for small items ensure that every item has its place. Before adding to cart, think about which items of clothing you want to hang up and which you want to store flat – this will help you choose the right interior layout.
Ergonomics also plays a role. Frequently worn items of clothing should be at a comfortable height to reach, whilst suitcases, blankets or seasonal clothing can be stored higher up or right at the bottom. Some wardrobes feature pull-out clothes rails, which make even the higher sections easily accessible. Drawers with a soft-close function close gently and prevent them from slamming shut. Details like these make everyday life noticeably easier.
Drawer inserts, tie racks, jewellery compartments and shoe racks help keep things tidy. A wardrobe with built-in lighting also makes it easier to choose your clothes in the early hours of the morning, when the room is otherwise still in darkness. If you wish, you can complement your wardrobe with a matching chest of drawers or a dressing table from the same furniture range – creating a cohesive, unified bedroom scheme. When putting together such a range, make sure that the colour, handles and materials harmonise. Do also take a look at our ‘Schlafwelt’ range.
Consultation, delivery and assembly at Möbel Ehrmann
A wardrobe is a piece of furniture that will be with you for many years – which is why choosing one should be a well-considered decision. Our interior design consultants will listen to you, ask about your preferences, your storage needs and your living situation – and, based on this, recommend models that really suit you. In our showrooms, you can view a wide range of wardrobes in person, open the doors and examine the interior fittings.
A key advantage of our company is our in-house fitting teams. We do not use external contractors, but rather our own permanent fitters, who will assemble your wardrobe neatly and adapt it to your floor plan. Particularly with large models or floor-to-ceiling wardrobes, our experience really pays off when it comes to aligning, securing and adjusting the doors. We’ll also answer any questions you may have in advance regarding delivery to upper floors or the removal of your old wardrobe.
We’d also be happy to advise you on affordable financing options if you’d like to pay for your new wardrobe in instalments.
