Lounge sets for gardens and patios – inviting, durable, custom-designed
An lounge set transforms your garden, terrace or spacious balcony into a second living space – with deep seat cushions, a low table height and a design that invites you to linger for longer. At Möbel Ehrmann, you’ll find a carefully curated product range of lounge sets to suit different spaces, styles and budgets, complemented by personalised advice at our furniture stores in the Palatinate, Baden and Trier. Whether it’s a compact corner module for a small city terrace or a spacious lounge set for the garden – we’ll help you find the set that’s right for you, taking into account materials, maintenance requirements and space needs right from the start.
High-quality lounge sets for your garden – an overview
Lounge sets are Outdoor ’s answer to the classic sofa: with deeper seats than a standard seating set, softer cushions than a classic garden chair, and usually a low side or coffee table at living-room height. This makes lounge sets particularly suitable for long evenings, social gatherings and relaxed Sunday afternoons. The combinations range from the classic 4-seater sofa with armchair and table, through modular corner arrangements, to spacious lounge suites with a footstool and integrated reclining area.
Our range includes both classic lounge sets as fixed combinations and modular systems that let you configure your own corner sofa, center piece and footstool. If you’d prefer more flexibility, you can also choose individual garden sofas and lounge sofas to add to your set and expand it step by step over the years. This way, your Outdoor seating arrangement grows with you – whether following a move, a new terrace layout or a change in how you use the space.
Stylish garden lounges for patios, gardens and balconies
A garden lounge looks particularly harmonious when its proportions are suited to the space available. For a narrow balcony with a depth of around 1.2 m or more, a 2- to 3-seater lounge bench with a small side table is ideal. On a terrace measuring 12–20 m², lounge sets featuring a corner sofa and a separate armchair can be arranged generously without blocking walkways. For an open garden area of 25 m² or more, modular lounge sets are a great option, offering space for up to eight people.
When deciding on the style, it helps to take a look at the neighbouring building and the surrounding planting. Light-coloured wicker in shades of sand, light grey or beige complement modern, light-coloured rendered façades and limestone cladding. Anthracite and black create a particularly calm effect on wooden decking and when combined with warm wooden accents. If you’re looking for a more natural-looking patio lounge, a lounge set made from acacia or teak might be just the thing. You can also find inspiration for combining these pieces with other ‘ Outdoor ’ furniture in our ‘Outdoor ’ living room range, where we’ve put together complete living spaces.
Lounge sets for small balconies and city terraces
In limited spaces, every seating position counts. Compact lounge sets with a sofa depth of 75–85 cm appear less bulky and can often be placed directly against the balustrade. A two-piece set comprising a two-seater bench and a side table with an edge length of 50–60 cm is often the most space-saving solution. So look out for removable cushions that can be dried quickly – this is less of a concern on a covered balcony, but all the more so on an open loggia.
Lounge sets for large gardens and ‘ Outdoor ’ living areas
If you’d like to make the most of a larger garden area, you can choose a lounge set with a table at dining table height (known as a ‘dining lounge’) or combine two seating areas – for example, a lounge for relaxing plus a separate dining area for social evenings. Modular ‘ Outdoor ’ lounges with a total width of 240–320 cm offer enough space for four to six people. An additional sun lounger or a footstool, which can serve as a side table when needed, provides flexible additional seating options.
Materials and comfort features: Rattan, poly rattan and more lounge sets
The choice of materials plays a key role in determining the look, ease of care and weather resistance. Most of the lounge sets in our range feature three material groups: poly rattan weave, aluminium frames with fabric covers, and solid woods such as acacia or teak. Each option has its own strengths – and the fingernail test on wood samples or a close look at the thickness of the cushions can help with the selection process.
Rattan and poly rattan lounge sets
A poly rattan lounge set combines the look of classic rattan with significantly better weather resistance. The synthetic fibres (often HDPE or PE) are UV- and moisture-resistant and are suitable for year-round outdoor use, provided the frame is made of powder-coated aluminium or stainless steel. Genuine natural rattan is best suited to lounge sets for covered areas or conservatories – when left outdoors, it swells when wet and loses its shape. Poly rattan can usually be cleaned with lukewarm water and a soft brush; stubborn stains can be treated with a mild soapy solution.
Aluminium, wood and textiles for Outdoor lounges
An aluminium frame does not rust and is relatively lightweight, making it easier to move around. Combined with high-quality Outdoor fabrics such as olefin or solvent-dyed acrylic, this results in lounge sets that look almost like an indoor living area. With wooden variants – such as teak or acacia – you should expect natural greying over the years; an annual treatment with maintenance oil can help preserve the original colour for longer. If you’re looking for a weatherproof set, you’ll find further inspiration in our lounge furniture category, where we also showcase individual pieces and matching armchairs.
Lounge set with table – how height, shape and size work together
A lounge set with a table only looks harmonious if the table height matches the seat height. Classic lounge tables measure 30–40 cm in height and are designed as coffee tables: they’re suitable for drinks, small snacks and books, but less so for a multi-course meal. Anyone who wants to dine al fresco regularly should opt for a dining lounge set with an elevated table (60–75 cm). When it comes to table shape, round models are recommended for smaller seating areas and rectangular ones for elongated sofa layouts.
Popular table tops include safety glass with a matt aluminium frame, polished ceramic with a stone or concrete finish, and oiled solid wood tops. Ceramic is particularly scratch- and heat-resistant and is suitable for heavy use. Glass has a light appearance and reflects daylight, but should be chosen with care if there are small children or on slippery surfaces. A protective cover for the table extends the lifespan of all materials and protects against pollen, bird droppings and dust.
Buy lounge sets – affordable sets and premium models
An affordable doesn’t have to mean compromising on comfort or durability. In the entry-level range, you’ll find sturdy poly rattan sets with powder-coated aluminium frames and removable cushions. In the mid-price range, you’ll often find higher-quality upholstery fabrics, thicker cushions (8–12 cm) and sturdier frame constructions. Premium lounge sets also offer modular components, adjustable backrests, ‘ Outdoor ’ foam cores with an open-cell structure and particularly hard-wearing covers. If you value well-known brands, you’ll find an overview of the manufacturers we stock in our brand portfolio.
A sensible investment—regardless of price range—is a custom-fit protective cover: it keeps upholstery and frames looking fresh for several years and significantly reduces the amount of cleaning required. Upholstery should also be stored in a dry place wherever possible and, ideally, kept in a ventilated room or a storage box over the winter. We’d be happy to advise you on affordable financing options directly in our furniture stores; many customers take advantage of the option to pay for a larger lounge set in convenient instalments.
